Discharge and charge test of battery charger

2023-04-20

Battery Charger officially put into the market will be a variety of tests, such as discharge test and charging test, today follow the YHY together to look at the battery charger and battery test measurement!

First, battery charger test

Rechargeable batteries need a charger to charge them after they have discharged. A good charger should be able to provide a constant current to charge them and automatically stop charging them when the battery is full for the longest battery life.

During the charging process, when the terminal voltage of the battery begins to drop (-△ V negative voltage slope), the battery charger should stop charging. Overcharging of the battery will cause permanent damage to the battery. Real rechargeable battery tests can be used when testing battery chargers, however, this method takes a very long time and is impractical or uneconomical. When an electronic load is used, it can be set to a constant voltage load mode and set the required terminal voltage. At this time, the electronic load will absorb enough current to control the voltage stability to the set value. For example, test the setting terminal voltage of the 1.2V rechargeable battery from 1V, 1.2V, 1.4V and 1.5V to test the current adjustment rate of the battery charger, and then set 1.48V(-△V analog battery sufficient) to test whether the charger will stop charging.

Second,Battery discharge test

Any battery can be considered as a voltage source and its storage capacity is measured in mAH or AH. For example, a battery capacity of 12V and 6AH indicates that it will work for six hours at 12V and 1A outputs.

When testing the discharge characteristics of the battery, the constant current mode of the electronic load should be used, and the battery should provide the test current within the required voltage range at the specified time, using a computer or printer to monitor the battery voltage and current.

The constant power mode can also be used to test the discharge characteristics of the battery. When the electronic load is operating in the constant power mode, the electronic load will absorb the set power value from the battery. The current of the electronic load will automatically increase as the load voltage decreases to keep the power constant, and vice versa.

Three, battery charging test

Generally, the DC power supply with constant voltage and constant current output can be used to charge the rechargeable battery, or the DC power supply without regulated current limit (such as simple rectifier and capacitor filter circuit) can be used in series with DC electronic load as the current source to charge the battery. At this time, the charging current is determined by the current value set in the constant current mode of the electronic load.
